Skills for everyday life
Everyone needs to learn how to communicate effectively and powerfully with other people, as well as convey their thoughts, ideas and feelings to the ones they love and work with. Participants will be exposed to skills for communicating well with others about their thoughts, feelings, ideas, opinions, tastes, preferences, values and beliefs.
Participants will also be taught how to be able to read well so they can spot common themes and think about universal ideas.

“Wealth consists not in having great possessions but in having few wants” is a favorite quote for many people who are good money managers. Having few wants is probably the best insurance against greediness, because it’s human nature to keep wanting more, and the more you have, the more you want.
Wouldn’t it be nice if there was a magic formula or a simple trick that allowed you never to have to worry about money or manage your finances again?
While that may not be realistic, there are some simple skills you can learn right now to improve how you manage money now and in the future. This training teaches many such skills.
Knowing oneself better is a good starting point for transforming oneself. Young adults will be equipped with skills and tools to raise and deepen self-understanding, know who they are, who they can become, and how they can excel in life; what they are good at and what gifts and talents help them excel; to understand their fate, destiny and potential; to know what their life calling, purpose and place in the world is and the things that create meaning and bring joy into their lives; to look into the life choices they have made and whether they serve their best interests or not; to understand each life stage and the challenges, opportunities, and obstacles each brings to them.
Self-knowledge will increase their confidence and create commitment to continue to develop.
Attending this training will help you to understand behaviour, behaviour change, the various personality traits and how to handle/relate with them. It will equip you with the ideas and skills on how to deal with what change throws your way given your respective temperament.
We are living in a very dynamic and inter-connected world. Along with the advantages of globalization come its attendant challenges; increased pollution of all forms, more consumption of fast/processed foods, sedentary lifestyles, upsurge in the use of drugs, cigarettes and alcohol. These coupled with the fast-paced, ‘modern’ lifestyles have caused an increase in stress and stress-related conditions, a rise in Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) as well as Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) in the populace of most African Countries. The adverse health conditions brought about by the afore-mentioned conditions cut across all categories of people. However, the most affected are young adults, as most are not taught in the formal education system how to live healthy lifestyles. They are often plunged into depths of ‘life’ without any prior preparation on how to make healthy lifestyle choices. The consequences of this are realized later and sometimes continue into adulthood, when reversal is too late. As the saying goes, ’Health is Wealth’. This module introduces you to the concept of health and its elements. It gives you an understanding of what healthy living means, its importance and benefits to the individual, the organization in they work and to the society. It will expose the challenges associated with living healthy and ways of overcoming them. It will show you the consequences of not living healthy. You will get detailed tips on how to live healthy in different aspects and bad health practices to avoid. Getting started is the most important aspect of every journey. Therefore, the module ends by giving you simple tips on how to start your journey on healthy living. The module is beneficial to all young adults regardless of education level and adults of all stages of life because it is never too early or too late to start living a healthy lifestyle. This module will be for women only.
Young women need to understand and recognize how unequal power balances and community gender stereotypes will affect their development and the relationships around them.
- They will be taught how to recognise when the power around them is unequal and unhealthy.
- They will be exposed to examples of positive gender relationships
- The will be made aware of the difference between healthy and unhealthy uses of power
- They will discuss alternative views that challenge and break gender stereotypes for example, when bosses as assigning roles and responsibilities, to try and not restrict to gender stereotypes.
- They will be trained in gender sensitivity
- Gain knowledge of gender inclusion policies
The training will emphasize that while they can`t always avoid or change the restrictive gender relationships and stereotypes, by being able to recognize them, at least they can choose to not adhere to them or be defined by them.
In a separate discussion group only for women, women will be made to understand the different values placed on being a woman and how this is connected with their ability to make and use money

Habits are important because they govern what we do, how we do it, our way of learning and how we live by ourselves, in the family, in the community and in the world. Habits can be good or bad. Bad habits have consequences to you and those around you but they can be unlearned. Good habits will take you where you want to go and lead you to success. They can be purposefully learned. This module explains what habits are and how they are formed. It presents the benefits of good habits and the consequences of bad habits. It exposes you to case studies of ‘successful’ people and explores why and how they excelled and the habits they cultivated over time. It gives you, in details, the skills and techniques of breaking bad habits and forming and sustaining (new) good habits. In these contemporary times, technology is aiding people in these processes. You will be exposed to simple mobile applications that can help you get rid of bad habits and form better ones. The module ends with a presentation of important habits that will make you successful in life. This module is beneficial to all young adults, especially those who are completing or have completed “Advanced’ Level. It is never too early or too late to start forming good habits and get rid of bad ones.
Relationships are very important in life. They are different types of relationships formed at various stages of life. One of the most important forms of relationships is the romantic relationship because it can make or break an individual depending on why, how and when they were formed and their eventual quality. It starts with dating, progresses to courtship and ultimately to marriage, if both partners find they are compatible. Despite its importance, most young adults are not taught or prepared for what it takes to start, nurture, build and sustain a healthy and enjoyable romantic relationship. In most cases, preparations tend to be for ladies intending to get married and these are hastily done a few days before the wedding with a focus on sexual aspect of the relationship. The preparation is not only done too late but very insufficient (to say the least) for a life-time relationship. And more often than not, the men are completely unprepared. This ill-preparedness in getting into romantic relationships has led to their pre-mature breakdown. This has physical, emotional and financial consequences not only to the partners but to their families, friends and society. The key to averting all this anguish is to learn the skills and basic principles in relating romantically. This module equips you with these. It is a comprehensive guide on courtship and marriage. It starts by giving you an in-depth understanding of what these concepts mean, what purpose they are intended to achieve, for whom and when. It then gives you a step-by-step approach on how to nurture and build a courtship relationship and ultimately transit it into an enjoyable and lasting marriage relationship. It expounds on rules for success and common mistakes in courtship and marriage. The training is very interactive and experiential sharing is encouraged. All young adults from the ages of 18 years, regardless of if they are in a romantic relationship or not, are eligible and encouraged to register for the training. The earlier one prepares for and acquires skills in handling these relationships, the better.

Final separation from any employer, institution or organization is an important life phase. While all employees desire to retire comfortably, the complexity, planning and time required in building a successful exit plan can make the whole process seem difficult.

What usually comes to mind when relationship skills are mentioned is usually romantic relationships. We shall work to expose participants to a very broad range of relationship skills that can be applied at the individual, family, community and society levels.
For example, at the individual level, skills for getting along with others, forming friendships and alliances and working in teams in a manner that respects individuality, builds on strengths, accepts weaknesses and meets needs will be emphasized.
At the community level, skills for listening to, understanding, respecting, following and obeying authorities, and abiding to the laws of the land will be highlighted. Also covered under community relationship skills will be skills for undertaking leadership roles, using power wisely, being a thoughtful and informed citizen who votes, paying taxes, participating in helping the community thrive and serving to protect and defend the rights and lives of others.
At the family level, skills for being a kind, loving and supportive family member, committing resources to nurture and champion the dreams of every family member, respecting differences of each family member and embracing each family member the for who they are will be focused on.
Participants will be exposed to conflict management skills and anger management skills.
Relationships are important because they affect us in several ways; they can build or break us depending on the quality of the relationship. They are formed at all stages of life. At our workplaces, we form and build relationships with our peers, supervisors and even subordinates. These professional relationships have a bearing on how we work, the satisfaction we get from what we do and our productivity. However, many workers fail to manage these relationships properly and they end up being toxic. This permeates throughout the organization and results in persistent squabbles, conflicts, and even outright physical confrontation and abuse, if not addressed appropriately. The consequences are bitterness, dissatisfaction, low morale and declining productivity at the individual and organizational level. Hence, it is important for workers and management of any organization to learn how to effectively manage relationships at work. This module gives you the skills to do this.
